Talent Team Whats That All About?
Written by Ian Bury
Sunday, 15 June 2008
Matt Winston has arranged an evening with Gary Coltman and any interested parties to go through the mechanics of the talent team, how it works, selection processes, what’s expected of the riders and parents etc.

Matts email below:

I will be running a talent team parents meeting as I mentioned at the regional school of racing on Monday 23rd June. The meeting will be starting at 7pm at the Manchester Velodrome and hopefully it will be a great opportunity for parents to ask questions that they may have about the program.

Gary Coltman will be running a presentation about the program on the night as I am fully aware that a lot of you have not seen this. This is not a closed meeting to people receiving this email so please pass the message on around your clubs.

I have included the go-ride club secretaries or club representatives to spread the word. The meeting is primarily aimed at riders and parents that are around the age of talent team selections so all 1st year u16s and U14 riders. If you have any questions please get back to me, and I hope to see you all on the night

Kind Regards
Matt

Matt added that the meeting has no bearing on selection it is information sharing only about the talent team.

Congratulations to  Matthew Rotherham who set a new Scottish and All Comers 200m Record for Youth B Boys beating the previous Record set by Patrick Galbraith by 3/10's of a second!  This is good going when you remember that Chris Hoy amongst others trained and raced on the Meadowbank track as youths!!

Chris Hoys dad was watching you all, he did the results!

Crash avoided at Velodrome
Written by Howard Pedder
Tuesday, 03 June 2008

Over the years i have seen some unusual causes of crashes a scouse favourite being stacking coke cans up in pyramid on the circuts or throwing half bricks in the path of the oncomming peleton, we were at the velodrome this evening on a exhibition SQT, whilst it was in full flow Richard Handley was giving it big licks on the front followed by a nameless rider and Sam Pedder on his wheel, Sam saw something dropping of the nameless rider and rapidly moved to avoid  the item which Sam thought was a bike part, on the next lap Sam looked down on the suspected part lying at the track base only to find it was a set of false teeth which had dropped out of the nameless riders mouth whilst he was grimacing through the effort of holding Richards Wheel,

The Nameless EX PRO and CURRENT SIS rider JIMMY RUTHERFORD oopps picked up his belongings and put them back in!

Anyone who as the misfortune to know my old mate will be aware the mad Scot aint easy to embarrass so I hope this will do the trick!

Yates twins can you spot the difference!
Written by Howard Pedder
Tuesday, 03 June 2008

The Yates duo Simon and Adam have come up through the Eastland ranks and on to Sportcity most recently, they have had a steady progression over the last couple of years culminating in their inclusion to the Talent Team, I think their progression was Highlighted to me at the Eddie Soens at the start of the season were they did significant rides Adam finishing in the top flight in a position I cant remember (sorry). they have had some great performances over the last few months which are to many to write down, a great victory in the NW champs saw Simon take gold and Adam Silver plus great rides at the IoM, it is often said that SCV is in the main a track team but these guys shatter this illusion, SCV is producing good calibre road riders who appear to breaking away from this track mould thankfully, the Yates boys are paving their own way for the future if they dont progress further with the ODP then they will be able to be successful through other routes either as Premier calender riders or on the continental circuits, they are already on my list of possibles to go abroad next year depending on the Talent Team duties, I think a major contribution to their success is down to John and Susan Yates who are just chilled out and go with the flow basically staying on the side lines and observing, I have never seen John putting pressure on the boys which shows in their riding which is a good lesson for all parents.

keep it going guys and best of luck
