Bikes Stored At the Velodrome in Eastlands Clubroom
Written by Ian Bury
Monday, 22 December 2008

Eastlands has made a number of requests asking members to remove their private bikes from the club room as we need the room for club bikes.

As these requests have had little effect to reduce the numbers we are asking you again to remove your private bikes from the club room.

FROM THE FIRST WEEK IN JANUARY::

ANY PRIVATE BIKES WILL BE TAKEN OUT AND STORED IN OUR CONTAINER AND YOU MAY NOT GET ACCESS TO THEM WHEN YOU NEED TO.

New Acting Chairman
Written by Ian Bury
Thursday, 18 December 2008

In preparation for the new year and some of the development work that is going to be done with Sportcity Velo, Phil Braybrooke will be acting chairman until a permanent replacement for Howard can be found.

In addition a working group has been setup to establish what the needs and expectations for Sportcity are with a view to building a plan to delivering the aspirations that the members of the club have.

It is expected that the working party will meet early in Jan and develop the dream somewhat!

Best of luck to all who have offered to help with this.

Help Required Please!
Written by Ian Bury
Thursday, 04 December 2008

As you know at each velodrome session on a Wednesday and a Saturday there is a table selling teas, coffee, biscuits etc.
The profits from the sales contribute to the bikes, race entries and other stuff for the club.
Can I ask for some volunteers to man the table during the sessions (the team that do it at the moment on a wednesday have been doing it for some years and would appreciate a break!) I'm not sure who does it on a Saturday.
If we could get a few people helping then it frees people up to have a social and watch their youngsters ride. If we can get a few people volunteering then the work can easily be shared.
Also it takes some effort to take the food from the clubroom to the track centre and back, heavy lifters (those bottles of pop are back breakers!) required please.
If you could help then please make yourself known!!!!

Hi all
The club room has had a makeover, the centre high rail is for road/cyclocross bikes and all bikes out of use
The cupboards have locks fitted, Alan has keys.
All pegs have numbers all Eastland's bikes will soon have numbers as well
All bikes have a place, riders will need to put bikes away in the correct place
If you can take your own bike home that would be appreciated, if it is difficult to take your bike home then please contact a coach.

Northwest Cyclo Cross Worthy of a Report!
Written by Ian Bury
Monday, 01 December 2008

Martin Woffindin had a storming ride at Leverhulme Park.
A massive start line 120 in total the most ever in a Northwest event with the cream of Yorkshire and Lancashire riders assembled to do battle over the long Leverhulme course.
Martin a first year junior cyclocrosser and in his first season of full distance cyclo cross managed to put on a bit of a show. I'm sure he did it just for me as I have only managed to get to 2 Northwest cyclocross events this year.
The weather was cold, the ground, frosty and had a solid top but then was soft soft underneath however, the course was described as excellent by a lot of the riders during the warm up.
A slight delay to the start because of a mix up of numbers (there were not enough numbers because of the amount of riders! A nice problem to have).
Soon we were underway a mass gallop to the first bend by the full field (a fantastic sight).
Martin tucked in with a group of 4 riders inc Dave Brailsford last years Northwest series winner. Also in the bunch was Perry Bowater a midlands rider of some repute who had travelled North looking for prize money.
Dave Brailsford soon dropped out of the group and later dropped out of the race and for a few laps the group of 3 stayed close together, during this time Martin was picking a spot to launch his attack to free himself of the 2 riders.
Martins chance came soon enough and on a technical descent Martin went for it and managed to uncouple himself from the group. This breakaway was not going to be recovered however, the two riders were always fairly close to Martin so he needed to be on his guard.
Given that this was against a very classy field, Martin I think finished first junior and also finished 10th in senior field! out of 120 riders that is just superb! well done tiger!

Other results from the youth races
Bryn Davies 1st U14 boy
Melissa Bury 1st U16 girl
A great ride in the seniors gave Anita Claydon 1st place senior lady
